How To Install Body Side Molding
Body side molding isn’t just a way to keep nicks out of your car doors. It also looks sleek and sporty on the side of your car. Affordable changes like this can set your car or truck apart from the rest.
You want to make sure you install the body side molding correctly. Otherwise, you’ll end up with uneven molding that can make your car look dented (exactly what you’re trying to avoid).
Here are some tips on installing your body side molding properly. If you’re more of a visual learner, check out our video to follow along with the process.
Preparation
Tools you’ll need:
Tape Measure
Masking Tape
Grease Pencil
Clean Soft Towel
Installation
Clean the surface where you’ll be installing the body side molding.
Check the installation sheet that comes with the kit to ensure proper measurements.
Make two marks with the grease pencil to indicate where the molding will begin and end along the side of your car.
Connect the marks using masking tape.
Clean the surface again with the alcohol pads included in the kit.
Repeat all of these steps on the other side of the vehicle.
Along the line of masking tape, apply a thin layer of the Pro-Bond adhesive that comes with your Sportwing kit to both sides of the car. The installation sheet will give you the correct molding start points.
Peel just the edges of the liner that are attached to the molding, then place the molding along the masking tape line gently, removing the liner that is underneath.
Using a soft cloth, wipe down firmly to make sure the molding sticks.
And that’s it! Our easy-to-follow instructions make installing your body side molding quick and easy.

The one problem I had was that I found it next to impossible to make a perfectly straight line using only masking tape (I was using painter's tape, but it's the same stuff). On the passenger side, although the tape looked perfectly straight to my eye, it was in fact bowed slightly upward in the middle. After installing the molding using the tape as a guide, the molding ended up slightly crooked; not by much, probably no more than 1/8", but just enough to be noticeable. On the driver's side I lucked out; the molding came out dead straight.
I removed the passenger side moldings. I thought they might break in the process as the adhesive bond was quite strong, but to my surprise they didn't. I removed the all adhesive from the body panels and removed as much adhesive from the double-stick tape on the molding as I possibly could. I found a length of pine baseboard molding in my garage. Dead straight, and just thin enough to have a bit of flex to it. I taped the baseboard to the side of the truck, then applied painter's tape following the top edge of the baseboard. I then removed the baseboard and re-applied the body moldings using the tape as a guide. Voila, dead straight.
I cannot find https://www.dawn-ent.com/instructions/RX16.pdf on your website. I have a 2022 Lexus RX 350 F Sport and was looking for installation instructions before I purchase the door moldings.
I just installed the side body molding on my 2018 ACURA. Unfortunately the two pieces are not straight. Can I remove the short piece so I can realign with the front piece. Can I use a heat gun to remove or just pull on using a fiberglass putty knife to prevent scratching.
Thank you
